Bob Dylan on "Shadows In The Night" Bob Dylan's new, 36th studio album is called "Shadows In The Night". It is dedicated to the songs that shaped not only himself but also his musical colleagues and friends in his childhood and youth. Dylan doesn't want the songs on his new album "Shadows In The Night" to be seen as cover versions. For one thing, he himself has been covered too often. And secondly, "cover" in English also means "to cover, cover, cover". Dylan, on the other hand, considers his versions of the classics to be revelations. The Great American Songbook and Frank Sinatra The album, now released under the title "Shadows In The Night", was something Bob Dylan wanted to record since the 1970s. Now the time is right. The release of the LP is obviously of great importance to him, as he recently gave an interview for the first time in three years. He wanted to right the wrong done to this song in countless cover versions, he said there. And he knows that Frank Sinatra is the yardstick by which good versions of these songs are measured, "Because he's the mountain." In "Shadows In The Night," Dylan wants to strike up a conversation with the songs he's chosen. He also sees concerts as an exchange with the audience about what is being sung, and not at all as a one-sided audition and performance. In the above interview, he says that he admired this approach in Sinatra, where he entered into a conversation with the music and the audience. A small cast quickly shows the direction the uncovered version of Bob Dylan is taking in the song "Shadows In The Night". Instead of a big band arrangement, he plays the song with a five-piece band. Two guitars, bass, pedal steel, occasional horns - no drums, no piano: this is Dylan's line-up for the Great American Songbook. To the listener, it sounds like he and his accompaniment get to the essence of what made these songs famous. Bob Dylan takes the classic "Shadows In The Night" from the big stage of big band interpretations to the living room. It sounds natural and familiar, like a session between friends. The way Jack Frost produced the album enhances the effect. No sound booths, no headphones: all the songs were recorded in one or two takes without overdubs and in the order they now appear on the album. Dylan treats these songs with great respect. In an interview, he stated that these songs are close to his heart and that he feels connected to them. It's especially audible in this lineup. Being a part of it is a wonderful experience. Conclusion With "Shadows In The Night", Bob Dylan presents a timeless album for the ages. The very well-known and lesser-played songs of the American songbook that Sinatra and other great singers had firmly in their repertoire are heard here in simple, quiet versions. Great. With "Fallen Angels," Bob Dylan presents another album of Frank Sinatra classics in 2016. Review "... Dylan sings songs from the repertoire of the entertainer of the century, Frank Sinatra, on his new album. And he does so as convincingly as he does engagingly." (Audio, March 2015) "A Dylan record you'll hear more often than you think." (musikexpress, March 2015) "Dylan soulfully sings the songs that once made Frank Sinatra famous. And he sounds as beautiful doing it as he has in a long time." (Rolling Stone, February 2015) "Making an album of songs that Frank Sinatra once sang is something Bob Dylan has probably wanted to do for a long time. At the age of 73, he has fulfilled that wish with the release of Shadows In The Night." (Good Times, April/May 2015)
Album zasahuje do žánrov Rock, Pop, Folk, World, & Country a Vocal. 180g Vinyl.
