Now, this supreme folk-rock troubadour has come to terms with his biography, the timeless songs of his successful era that made him famous around the world and continue to hold him in the hearts of fans today as one of the greatest performers of all time. The enigmatic songwriter and sensitive superstar is touring Germany again for the first time since his legendary 1976 project "Majikat". From May 10 to 29, concerts will take place in Hamburg, Oberhausen, Berlin, Munich and Mannheim, where Yusuf Islam will pay tribute to selected greatest hits especially from the Cat Stevens era, but will also present several new songs. More than 100 million recordings attest to the popularity, respect and affection for a song canon that has lost none of its charm and authenticity since then, and which its live audience has long been deprived of. Steven Demetre Georgiou was born in 1948 in London to a Greek Cypriot father and a Swedish mother. His parents ran a café in London's West End, the centre of show business and the British music industry. Young Steven had two passions: music and art. Leonard Bernstein's Westside Story (1958) and The Beatles (1963) were important influences in his youth. He bought his first guitar, discovered an interest in blues and folk music and decided to become a composer. Cat Stevens was playing in pubs and clubs when producer Mike Hurst noticed him in 1966. His first successes came with pop songs like "I Love My Dog", "Matthew & Son" and "Here Comes My Baby". In 1969, he became seriously ill with tuberculosis. It took him several months to recover. During this time he began to ask questions about his life so far and search for answers. In 1970, when he reappeared on the scene, he underwent a transformation and change of musical direction that revealed a new, more intense artistic quality and made him a world star with introverted, emotional songs. He intuitively expressed the fears and hopes of young people, connecting with the life attitude of an audience of millions. The album "Mona Bone Jakon" was the beginning before "Tea For The Tillerman" and "Teaser And The Firecat" finally opened the gates. Every album Cat Stevens released until 1978 also reflected his constant search for fulfillment and the spiritual key to his life. The trigger for the decisive impulse was a traumatic experience where he nearly drowned. Cat Stevens was caught in a heavy swell while swimming off Malibu Beach. Legend has it that in desperation he cried out to God for help and the sea did indeed deliver him from its grasp. In 1977, Cat Stevens converted to Islam and found religious peace as Yusuf Islam. He gave up his career and donated most of his wealth and income to charities. In the meantime, he learned to accept Cat Stevens and his music as part of who he was. The concerts are an expression of this awareness and positive approach to the stages of his life that connect him to his fans.
