Pianist and composer Hania Rani lives between Warsaw, her adopted home, and Berlin, where she studied and still works frequently. "Glass" is the title of the first single from her album "Esja", which the Pole describes as her "first real statement" as an artist: "No more hiding behind 'collaborations' and some 'projects'. Yes, finally for the first time it's just about me, about who I am." The recording of "Esja", which Hania Rani made in her apartment in Warsaw - her piano room has excellent acoustics; she now uses the space both as an (art) studio and as a kind of laboratory for sound experiments - and in her friend Bergur Þórisson's studio in Reykjavik, contains a total of ten melodic vignettes from her pen. Her compositions are sensual, soulful, rhythmic, atmospheric, open and harmonic at the same time, seductive and hypnotic, evoking a feeling that seems to momentarily blur the boundaries of space and time. Indeed, the shimmering opener "Glass" has a fragile glass-like quality; the many reflections and shades of colour of the mirrored glass are also clearly audible.
