The band was founded by brothers Duane and Gregg Allman along with Dickey Betts, Berry Oakley, Butch Trucks, and Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson. Their self-titled debut album "The Allman Brothers Band" was released later that year and laid the foundation for their blend of rock, blues, jazz, and country music. The band's breakthrough came with their live album "At Fillmore East," released in 1971, which is often considered one of the best live albums ever recorded. Tragically, later that year, Duane Allman died in a motorcycle accident, but the band continued on and released "Eat a Peach" in 1972, which featured live recordings from the Fillmore concerts as well as studio tracks. Over the years, despite lineup changes and various hiatuses, The Allman Brothers Band has remained a seminal force in American music, known for their extended improvisations and jam sessions. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 and continued to perform until their final concert in 2014.
